This talk is about how to get insights with Matomo to increase form conversions and optimize the user experience.

We will review two different approaches to achieve this using Matomo.

First we'll focus on Goals, the classic and most common way to measure and collect relevant information about form conversions. Then we will review the Form Analytics plugin, a newer option that allows us to integrate within our instance specific reports about how visitors interact with a form. Knowing both methods will be helpful to streamline lead generation and customer relationships across forms.

We will briefly discuss how to set up both functionalities, explain the most useful metrics, and present multiple examples from my own experience.

At Digitalist we have been configuring the TagManager for hundreds of different websites.
In this session we will give you our best practices so that you also can get better data from your website when using Matomo.

Tomas Persson will give you his Top 5 Best Practices for the Matomo Tag Manager!

1. Cleaning up data from you site
Using MTM is easy, but very often the data coming from your website or app is inconsistent or it even contains PII. This can and should be managed in MTM before you send it to Matomo.
Tomas will teach you the basics.

2. Data structures for events
Thinking about how you name your events is key for a good reporting in Matomo. We will give you some examples and ideas about how you can do this.

3. Consent management
Getting consents right is the fundament you need to rely on.
We will show you some examples of how you can integrate a CMP with Matomo

4. Custom Search tracking
The built in search is great an easy to set up, but for more advanced things like search count etc you need to know your way around MTM.
Another challenge is dynamic / AJAX based searches that can be quite tricky to work with.

5. Accessing data relative to the clickElement
If you click a button, you often need/want to get data dynamically from elements relative to the actual button. We will show you how this can be done in MTM.

There will also have time for a Q&A in the end where you can ask Tomas anything about Tag Management!

Ghost & Matomo - Ghost CMS is the best thing out there for making your newsletter site. Matomo the best one for analytics. What if one could have both?

Ghost CMS is an awesome modern and open source CMS. With it you can create pretty much a self-hosted clone of Substack (substack was actually caught using them!). You have out of the box emails, newsletters and payment processing (NO PLATFORM FEES!!! uhu!).

But once you install Ghost you're pretty much blind. The info it gives you is very limited and just putting a sccript up there on the header is not the way to go... how are you gonna know where people that sign up for your annual plan came from?

This is a tough nut to crack also because Ghost was developed using modern patterns where much of the data is not available to the front-end (for privacy and security reasons)

This talk is about how you can, in compliance with Ghost's architecture implement advanced analytics by marrying Ghost and Matomo (via the Matomo Tag Manager).

By the end of it, you'll be able to level up your newsletter site with proper analytics in a fully sovereign way!

You don't know any code? NO PROBLEM! I also don't know much. We'll use ChatGPT to help us with that part

Let's say, you want to capture online actions and be able to tie them to offline sales. Using the API, this data is now available to make that connection.

While adopting Matomo on its own improves the privacy of users and visitors, sometimes more must be done. We will talk about the kinds of privacy different situations require and explain our techniques and tools for achieving them in simple language.

While adopting Matomo on its own improves privacy of people, sometimes more must be done. It may be that your application, site, or service is being deployed within a different legal or ethical context, or with a higher risk community of users or type of application and data. There may also be a desire or need to do a specific kind of time-limited study, with a specific set of consent requested from people interested in participating. Whatever it is, it is clear there is a need for more than a binary “yes or no” question when it comes to measurement, analytics, and telemetry.

In this talk, we will discuss the kinds of privacy different solutions require and explain the techniques and tools we have developed for achieving them with Clean Insights using simple language. Clean Insights gives developers a way to plug into a secure, private measurement platform through an alternative client SDK that works on top of the Matomo server. It is focused on assisting in answering key questions about app usage patterns, and not on enabling pervasive invasive surveillance of all user habits. Our approach provides programmatic levers to pull to cater to specific use cases and privacy needs. It also provides methods for user interactions that are ultimately empowering instead of alienating.

Our techniques for this include:

DATA MINIMIZATION - Take only what you need
Only the minimum amount of usage and behavioral data should be gathered to answer a determined set of questions. The frequency, range, and level of details of measurements should be as small as possible.

SOURCE AGGREGATION - No Needles, Only Haystack
Possibly identifying data should not be held in any part of the system longer than necessary, aggregated at the source at the earliest possible time.

DETAIL GENERALIZATION - Dilute, Rinse, Repeat
Dilute the attributes of data subjects by modifying the respective scale or order of magnitude (i.e. a region rather than a city, a month rather than a week)

ENGAGED TRANSPARENCY - Get Consent Early & Often
Always get consent, and the scope of the data collection and algorithms used should be made publicly available and well explained.

How to manage 100 websites, dozen of Matomo servers and 100 users with only one platform? This is the exact question a client asked us a few months ago. One thing for sure, it’s not easy on Matomo : the more websites you have, the more users you need to create to give them access to the data, the more you have to configure specific reports. In short : it’s a nightmare to administrate. Today, we’re going to share with you the solution we developed for this client.

The idea is to explain how you can create some themes and enhance your creativity by using ChatGPT or similar Artificial Intelligence. **My wish is to turn non developers into potential Matomo plugin developers by taking one of the easiest way to create plugin within Matomo: themes.**
